Alexis Sanchez ruled out of Arsenal's Premier League opener against Leicester

Sanchez was given extended time off due to his participation in the Confederations Cup, but he returned to training later than planned because of illness. But he will not be available.

"It is a relief and I believe as well a reminder to the players that they have hurdles on the way and that we can get round it, like tonight so that is quite positive".

"I felt that to lose tonight would have been bad for us because we had such good preparation and to sit there in the morning and think we had lost at home would have been awful", he said. "I don't think I would have included him certainly on Friday night - I don't think I would have started him". He is focused. Of course when you have treatment on a medical bench, it's not easy'.

Wenger told a news conference: "He had a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training before he came to Wembley". We are not there yet'.

Wenger said the forward had sustained an abdominal injury and was likely to miss both Friday's game against Leicester and the trip to Stoke City on August 19.

'He was busy completing the transfer of Neymar.

"That's what I read in the papers and on my side I had no contact at all with Paris Saint-Germain [about Sanchez]".

It was declared by the five judges of the Supreme Court that he is not honest and trustworthy, not by five common people. The apex court and the nation sought his answer for fifteen months, but he had nothing to tell except lies.

"I just think we are not open - what I said to you many times - to any offers, anyway".

On Sanchez and Ozil's final year of contract, Wenger said: "When a player goes into the final year of their contract we will try to extend the contract because there is no reason we shouldn't do it, but we are not there yet".

Wenger hinted his team for Leicester clash could be similar to the one which won the Community Shield against Chelsea on penalties.

'Will they be available or not?

The Gunners could be without Aaron Ramsey, Mesut Ozil and captain Per Mertesacker against Leicester, with the defence set to be a makeshit affair as Laurent Koscielny is suspended.

'I can take a gamble on one, maybe maximum two, but I focus more on the players who had the right number of competitive minutes in recent weeks'. "But all the other players prepared in preseason and are ready", Wenger said.
