Bryce Harper does not have ligament or tendon damage

Friday night's Giants-Nationals game postponed due to inclement weather

Start of Giants-Nats series pushed back by rain

Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper is now on the 10-day disabled list after slipping on first base. The play was not pretty.

Rain delayed the game for nearly three hours before the team announced it was being called. They are bound to be upset and anxious now. This season, Harper's hitting.327/.420/.616 with 29 home runs, 87 RBI and 92 runs scored. "We're optimistic we'll see him this season".

The 24-year-old Harper is a five-time All-Star and was the National League MVP in 2015.

The Nationals won the clash against the Giants with a 3-1 triumph. The San Francisco Giants hand the ball to right hander Jeff Samardzija for Sunday's start at the Washington Nationals.

Harper lunged toward first base and appeared to slide on the bag, hyperextending his left leg. Harper fell to the ground and held his left knee for several minutes. Harper clutched at his left knee and didn't put any weight on it as he was helped off the field. He was able to do that, as Melancon allowed one hit and had one strikeout against his most recent team in the eighth inning, his first work since June 27.

The Nats now hold a 14-game lead in the National League East and have the third best record in baseball overall, so even if they lose Harper for the rest of the regular season, it's not likely they fall to the bottom of the rankings. Earlier this year Adam Eaton was hurt on a similar play at first base and the Nationals are also without Jayson Werth, Ryan Raburn and Michael Taylor. Washington hopes the same fate doesn't happen to Harper. He was talking to the Master.

But there are worse things than waiting through rain delays and postponements. The game will be in Woodbridge, Va., against the Salem (Va.) Red Sox, a farm team of Boston.

Moore is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts against Washington and Stratton has never faced the Nationals.
