Penn State has been chosen as the favorite to win the Big Ten Conference women's soccer championship in 2017, according to the Big Ten preseason coaches' poll announced Monday. The change is to accommodate the 2018 Big Ten tournament, which will be held February 28-March 4 at Madison square Garden in New York City. Michigan State will be a preseason top-five team in the nation, while Minnesota returns almost its entire lineup from a squad that finished fourth in the conference and won 24 games last season. The December stretch wraps up with Nebraska hosting Minnesota and Michigan State traveling to Rutgers on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
As the Big Ten announced its schedule, Michigan State also announced all but one of its non-conference games. Three of the next four games send the Lady Lions to the western-most parts of the Big Ten, kicking off at Iowa (Feb. 8) and ending at Minnesota (Feb. 11). A home date with Minnesota on Jan. 10 is sandwiched between road trips to Rutgers (Jan. 6) and Wisconsin (Jan. 14).
The Huskers didn't play a home conference game on a Saturday last season after playing five in 2015-16.
