On Friday, more than 40 trucks and 130 members of the National Guard's 253rd Transportation Company will head to Florida to help state officials.
Even as Hurricane Irma tracks to the western edge of North Carolina, the U.S. Coast Guard has now heavily restricted the Port of Wilmington.
Maj. General Mark Bartman told The Associated Press Saturday the Ohio National Guard will be part of a contingent of totaling around 7,000 soldiers from National Guard units in Wisconsin, Indiana and MI. The Ohio National Guard said as many as 3,000 guardsmen could be called on to respond to devastation from the looming hurricane.
"On a holiday weekend, we called and less than 48 hrs, 2,000 citizens soldiers and airmen responded to the needs to the neighbors to the south".

Gov. Christie already approved aid to Texas for victims of Hurricane Harvey. At this point in the recovery, there are still 1,000 Oklahoma Guard members on the ground in the Beaumont and Corpus Christi areas.
"We have two task forces down there, each with about 500 soldiers, one in the Beaumont area and one in the area closer to Corpus Christi", Wilham said.
The members of the 106th Rescue Wing are based on Long Island.
