Tyler Eifert's comeback year has come to an end.
The Bengals put tight end Tyler Eifert on injured reserve Thursday after he underwent surgery to fix a disc in his back and he's not expected to return this season.
ESPN's Adam Schefter and Field Yates reported Eifert is deciding whether or not to have back surgery for the third time, which would end his season.
The 27-year-old Eifert was selected to the Pro Bowl after reeling in 13 touchdown passes during the 2015 season.
So Robbie Lawler is Fighting Rafael dos Anjos Next…
Against dos Anjos at UFC on FOX 26, he'll look to string together a couple of wins to work his way back into title contention. Since moving up, dos Anjos is 2-0, including a one-sided submission victory over Neil Magny at UFC 215 last month.
The Bengals made a move that reflects that decision as they placed Eifert on injured reserve Thursday.
Cincinnati picked up Eifert's fifth-year option on his rookie contract during the 2016 offseason but likely have concerns re-signing him long-term given his injury history. Free agent in winter.
He has been sidelined by injuries for much of his career, playing in just two games this season.
