Boy Scout Backlash - Girls Scouts Say 'No Boys Allowed'

Local councils weigh in on Boy Scouts' admittance of girls

Local scouting community reacts to Boy Scouts changes

We are girl experts, proven by the outcomes: Girl Scouts develops positive values, a strong sense of self, healthy relationships, and a commitment to community service.

While some tell 10News they believe the move is a big step toward gender equality, others worry the plan is actually an attempt to boost falling membership by poaching girls away from the Girl Scouts.

In what many are calling a historic decision, leaders of the Boy Scouts of America have voted to allow girls to join the Cub Scouts.

"Peter Jones with the Boy Scouts of America Montana Council disagrees".

According to the Boy Scouts of America 2016 Annual Report, there were 1,262,311 boys in Cub Scouts across the country.

"If there is a program not being met out there for the girls, and the Boy Scouts are making it available, there's a disconnect there", said Patti Wilson, a lifetime Girl Scout. In 1998, the BSA created the Venturing program for boys and girls aged 14-20 which offers programming for older scouts.

"I got several phone calls and messages yesterday of people texting me, 'When can our girls start?' I was like, 'OK, hold on, '" LeMond said.

The Boy Scouts were long the target of progressive ire for refusing to change rules it followed for decades that prevented gay youths and leaders from joining the organization.

FEMA actually can stay in Puerto Rico indefinitely
FEMA's focus, the official said, is to "move from the response phase to recovery", adding the recovery phase often takes years. While MLB has been doing what it could to lend a hand to Puerto Rico, Trump hasn't appeared to be all that eager to help.

"We think the decision by the Boy Scouts is unfortunate", she continued.

"It's kinda disappointing because one of things I really like about Girls Scouts is that it's all girls and we get to see from women leaders who have really impacted the world", says Senn.

Eberspeaker said, "Every girl who is a Girl Scout has the opportunity to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award. and it is a very prestigious award". Earlier this year, the church announced that it would stop participating in two Boy Scouts programs for teenagers.

"Utilizing the resources that we have already, we have the capacity to serve more kids and to bring programming, leadership development skills".

"No, sir", she said.

And forming a united pack is important to these families.

One question that has come up is what impact this will have on the Girl Scouts, which is a separate organization. Instead of addressing systemic issues of continuing sexual assault, financial mismanagement and deficient programming, BSA's senior management wants to add an accelerant to the house fire by recruiting girls.
