According to police, Harshita Dahiya was attacked at around 4 pm while she and three others were returning by a auto from a programme at Chamrara village of Panipat district.
Harshita Dahiya, a Haryanvi folk singer and dancer was shot dead on Tuesday evening while she was on her way home after a programme at Chamrara village in Israna block of the district.
The 22-year-old was brutally murdered by unidentified attackers in Chamrara village, the police said.
"When she was returning, a black auto overtook her vehicle near Chamrara and forced it to stop", Panipat Deputy Superintendent of Police Desh Raj told PTI.
It is learnt that she was shot dead by two youth who came in a auto and fired bullets at her before fleeing the spot. The singer died on the spot.

The assailants fired seven bullets, out of which six bullets hit Harshita's forehead and neck, police said, adding that the youths are yet to be identified.
SP Raj has said that Dahiya had filed a complaint of rape against her brother-in-law, who is in jail now. She was also a witness in the murder case of her mother, who had been killed a few months back.
There are reports that the singer had said that she was getting life threats.
Her body was sent for the post-mortem to Panipat civil hospital.
A murder case had been registered and investigations are underway, the DSP said.
