Man suspected of killing wife in cleaver attack due in court

A man attacked two female family members with a cleaver Thursday afternoon in Vermont, killing one and leaving the other in critical condition, according to police.

Gurung has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and attempted murder, according to jail records.

Authorities arrested the suspect, a 34-year-old man whose name has not been released, after he attacked the victims at a home on Hyde Street in the Old North End of Burlington.

Khadka died from severe head injuries, including wounds to her skull, arms and hands.

Khadka's mother, Thulsa Rimal, 54, was also attacked.

Investigators described the cleaver as being about 10 inches long with a handle.
