Marvel's Kevin Feige on That Spider-Man: Homecoming/Avengers Timeline Issue

Marvel fans were left scratching their heads this summer when Spider-Man Homecoming revealed itself to be taking place eight years after the Battle of NY. These are the #Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) from Disney and Marvel, and the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) from Warner Bros. and DC. That makes sense, but what about the age factor that doesn't quite fall in right! This is the time period when Homecoming takes place, but it doesn't square with the presumption that Avengers took place in the year of its release, 2012. How is this all working out timeline wise?

All of that debate has made us go, "Okay, at some point, I'm not sure exactly when, we're going to publish a timeline and see what it all is.' It wasn't meant to flummox anybody exactly, and I'm not sure I'd do it again the same way, but it does all connect to where we placed it".

"But suffice to say, only in limited cases do we ever actually say what the actual years are because we never want to be tied down to a particular year and I think people assume that whenever the movie is released is when is when the movie is taking place, and that is not the case."

Marvel's Cinematic Universe has, by and large, been well known for its meticulous timeline.

With the release of The Avengers: Infinity War trailer exclusively for D23 Expo and Comic-Con attendees (though a version has leaked online), fans can't wait for when Marvel Studios releases the official Avengers: Infinity War trailer online.

That said, Marvel's need to address this issue at all comes from the grand plan, the interconnected universe used to tell this long-form story that culminates with Avengers 4 in 2019. After discussing what's next for Marvel's mighty Norse god, who is now riding the crest of a wave ahead of November 3rd, the conversation turned toward the studio's upcoming slate, and specifically, Avengers 4, a sequel that has been a complete mystery ever since it was first announced.
