Alabama and North Carolina are the final states in the running to win a prized Toyota Motor Corp. and Mazda Motor Corp. joint auto factory worth $1.6 billion, people familiar with the negotiations told Bloomberg.
Out of all the states that were considered, only Alabama and North Carolina remain in the running.

Randolph County is in the process of expanding its site by rezoning 370 acres to add to the 1,500 acres that comprise the site. The other three mega-sites are near Siler City and Moncure in Chatham County and east of Rocky Mount in Edgecombe County.
Toyota's collaboration with Mazda goes beyond the shared plant.
The factory is scheduled to open in 2021. Mazda will build crossovers at the plant, and Toyota intends to build the Corolla there. MetLife operations in Cary and Charlotte garnered $87 million in incentives in 2013.
