Curtis Samuel out for year with ligament damage in ankle

The Carolina Panthers rookie and former Ohio State star suffered a season-ending left ankle injury on Monday night against the Dolphins.

National Football League insider Adam Schefter tweeted Tuesday that the first-year receiver suffered ligament damage in his ankle during Monday's 45-21 victory over Miami and will be shut down for the remainder of the season.

Samuel will miss the rest of the season after tearing ligaments in his left ankle Monday against the Dolphins, David Newton reports.

A second-round pick in the 2017 National Football League draft out of Ohio State, Samuel caught a career-high five passes for 45 yards in the first half against the Dolphins before the injury. He is scheduled to have surgery on the injured ankle and eventually be placed on injured reserve. Wide receiver Damiere Byrd is eligible to return December 3 from injured reserve. Speedy second-year wideout Damiere Byrd (broken forearm) is eligible to come off injured reserve before the December 3 game at New Orleans. The offensive coordinator said it's going to take a collective effort. Is there anybody as fast as him? We're going to try hard to find ways to put guys in place for what they do best and then have them go do it.

Aside from first-round pick Christian McCaffrey, the Panthers haven't gotten much out of their draft class this year. "It was guys coming in and doing their job and knowing their assignments".
