EA is Buying Titanfall Developer Respawn Entertainment

EA Acquires Respawn Entertainment, New Titanfall Game In Development

The creators of Titanfall 2 and Call of Duty are working on a Star Wars game

Earlier this week, EA and Titanfall studio Respawn Entertainment made a joint announcement about their recent acquirement.

Respawn and EA have multiple projects now in development, including a new Titanfall title, a game in the Star Wars universe, and a VR gaming experience.

We've spoken before about how actually good Titanfall 2 was, and it seems like nobody listened as the game undersold during its initial run and has since become something of an underrated cult hit. Additionally - and probably most frustrating - is that EA's contract reportedly stipulates that Respawn's work on Titanfall 3 and the work that the developer will be putting into the upcoming Star Wars game will have bonuses reflected via the Metacritic scores. While both companies had been partners for a while, now EA will have direct control of the company. Whether the game ends up being Titanfall 3 or some sort of spin-off, this is absolutely fantastic news for Titanfall fans who were anxious about the series' future following the lukewarm sales of the second game.

"Ultimately, my message is we are still Respawn and we are going to make the same games we did before, and hopefully better", Zampella said. We felt that now was the time to join an industry leader that brings the resources and support we need for long term success, while still keeping our culture and creative freedom.

The Red Sox hit the fewest home runs in the American League last season and are looking to upgrade their lineup offensively. The Red Sox, meanwhile, are prepared to increase payroll, even to the point of exceeding the luxury tax threshold.

A lot of the money will be paid out in a handful of deals worth over $100 million across stocks, cash, and performance considerations.

"We've seen firsthand the world-class caliber of Respawn as a development studio with incredible vision, deep talent and an inspiring creative mindset", said EA CEO Andrew Wilson in a press release. The acquisition is expected to be neutral to EA's net income in fiscal years 2018 and 2019.

Easily one of the strongest single-player campaigns for a first-person shooter since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Titanfall 2 won huge praise from critics and the smaller-than-expected number of players who took to the game.
