"The protestors from Karni Sena, an organisation of the Rajput community, pelted stones and broke windowpanes, gates and the ticket counter and also damaged some office furniture between 3.30 p.m. and 4 p.m.at the theatre in Akash Mall", Anand Yadav, Circle Incharge of Gumanpura police station, told IANS on phone. According to reports, 8 people have been arrested relating to the incident.
The film, jointly produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and Bhansali Productions, is slated to release on December 1 in India and November 30 in the UAE.
No case has been registered in connection with the violence. They had issued warnings that they would set theatres on fire if the movie was screened.
Branding themselves as protectors of culture, the men shouted slogans against the film and filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. But the makers of Padmavati said that they can do that only after it is granted a certificate by the censor board.

In a press conference in Dallas on Tuesday, a teary-eyed Warner spoke to reporters and apologized for her language. A Dallas police spokesperson told Huffington Post , "We're still trying to gather information about this case".
Sri Rajput Karni Sena and Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha have announced opposition to the release of Bhansali's film as, they claim, historical facts have been "distorted". The Rajput Karni Sena is claiming that Padmavati insults the Rajput community and is a distortion of history, which "hurts their religious sentiments". In the film, Deepika Padukone will play the role of Rani Padmini, Shahid Kapoor will play the Rajput king, Ratan Singh, and Ranveer will be seen as Alauddin Khilji.
Talking to media, earlier in the day, Deepika said she believes that the film will tide over the controversy and win a "bigger battle" for the industry. "You can not just show anything in the name of a film", said Lokendra Singh Kalvi, the president of the Rajput Karni Sena in Gujarat capital Gandhinagar. What have we gotten ourselves into?
Bhansali had recently posted a video on Padmavati's official Twitter account calling the film his tribute to the "sacrifice, valour and honour" of Rani Padmavati. "Nation can progress only when it is regression from her perspective", Swamy tweeted.
