Following o from its cover reveal, EW has now posted a batch of first-look images from next year's X-Men sequel X-Men: Dark Phoenix, which includes shots of Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Professor X (James McAvoy), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), director Simon Kinberg and Jessica Chastain's as-yet-unrevealed shape-shifting villain. My bet is on either Lawrence's Mystique or Nicholas Hoult's Beast, both of whom would have a major impact given that they've been with the franchise since X-Men: First Class, as opposed to killing off some newish character audiences aren't exactly attached to just yet. The famous comic book arc was dabbled with in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand with Famke Janssen as Jean Grey, but the soft reboot of First Class has allowed the X-Men universe to have another go at the acclaimed X-Men storyline, with the new Jean, played by Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, at the center of it all.
In a photo (below), we get our first glimpse at the character, which has Chastain abandon her red locks for a platinum blonde look.
In all seriousness, the Dark Phoenix first look is pretty nondescript, with a nude Sophie Turner rocking fiery locks and showing cracks of flame in her skin. But his growing ego puts the team at risk. After a solar flare hits the X-Jet, a surge of energy taps into the power-hungry force within Jean: The Phoenix.
"Dark Phoenix" moves the story forward another decade, set in 1992, where the X-Men are beloved heroes now.
