Nicole Kidman looks nearly unrecognisable in new pictures from Destroyer, a new thriller film in which she plays a detective. Her hair is just as messy as her appearance.

"Big Little Lies" season 2 will see the return of Nicole Kidman as Celeste and Reese Witherspoon as Madeline, but HBO has yet to confirm if Shailene Woodley, who starred with the two actresses in season 1 as Jane, will also return. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance on Monday.

As we weave our way into the new year, Kidman's been hard at work on the set of Destroyer, a crime drama following a detective who seeks out those she once worked with on an undercover assignment. She will be joined by Bradley Whitford and Toby Kebbell in the film.

Critically acclaimed mini-series "Big Little Lies" has been renewed for a second season.

"I'm so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends", she added in a statement.

According to HBO, the eight-time Emmy winning series' second installment will tackle the "malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting".

Based on Liane Moriarty's bestselling novel, "Big Little Lies" was initially broadcast as a mini-series, and was not meant to run beyond seven episodes shown at the start of 2017.

Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman will return as stars and executive producers.
