He is the second player in Big Ten history to win three major conference awards, joining last year's Paul Hornung Award victor, Michigan's Jabrill Peppers (Defensive Player of the Year, Linebacker of the Year, Return Specialist of the Year). The Heisman Trophy shoo-in, Mayfield has logged 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns through the air with a nation-leading 203.8 passer rating. He also leads the Big Ten in kickoff returns and scoring with 21 touchdowns.

Barkley called his selection an honor.

Hornung, a former Heisman Trophy victor at Notre Dame and a star running back and placekicker with the Green Bay Packers, said, "Saquon Barkley has the skills and determination to impact games from several positions. The Hornung Award is not only honoring the most versatile player in college football, but is also recognizing one of the best people in college football".

Prey, Destiny 2 , Nioh, Cuphead and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus are vying for Best Action Game . Then there's the awards themselves, with a packed field fighting for Game of the Year.

Barkley's 594 receiving yards are second-most among running backs, his 16 scrimmage plays of 30 yards or more rank third nationally, and the junior's 28.4 yards per kick return are third-best among Power 5 players.

"I couldn't be more proud of Saquon and everything he has accomplished at Penn State", Penn State coach James Franklin said in a statement earlier this week when Barkley won the Paul Hornung award as the nation's most versatile player.

But Barkley was shut out at ESPN's College Football Awards show.
