The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) ceremony will be a women's affair, organizers of one of Hollywood's biggest awards shows said on Wednesday, a tribute at a time when the entertainment industry has been roiled by a sexual misconduct scandal as well as the struggle for gender equality in front of and behind the camera. "And this night will celebrate women more than any other SAG Awards has, and possibly more than any other awards show has". Sending more confusing signals, Sean Hayes, left out when the Globes nominated Eric McCormack and the show, earned a male actor in a comedy series nod from SAG, but the series fell short in the ensemble category. No film in 22 years has won best picture at the Oscars without being nominated for SAG's top prize of best movie ensemble. He will have to fight it out with Denzel Washington's critically-praised turn in "Roman J Israel, Esq.', James Franco's "The Disaster Artist", Timothee Chalamet for "Call Me by Your Name" and Daniel Kaluuya of "Get Out".
The respective Globe and SAG Award TV nominations, though, come at the midway point in the Emmy calendar and are followed by five-plus months of TV without any major awards, so sometimes they're predictive and sometimes they're reactive.
In addition to having all-female presenters, Kristen Bell will be the first-ever host of the SAG Awards. That's because the 2018 ceremony will feature all female presenters alongside its host, Kristen Bell.
