13 killed as suicide bombers attack Borno community

BREAKING: Morning Suicide Attack in Biu

Since 2009, Nigeria has been facing an insurgency by the Boko Haram jihadists, who have pledged allegiance to the Daesh terrorist group.

At least 13 people have been killed while 53 were injured in two attacks in Biu, a community in the southern part of Borno state, the police have said.

The twin suicide attacks occurred yesterday at Biu Main Market and entrance of the market, when two suspected female suicide bombers detonated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) on their bodies.

He said the suicide bombers entered the town at about 1140hrs.

So far, a total of 13 persons excluding the two suicide bombers, have been confirmed killed in the two explosions.

"Police patrols/EOD teams led by the Acting Area Commander for Biu were promptly mobilized and dispatched to scene".

A statement issued by Police Public Relation Officer, Victor Isuku to the press in Maiduguri on Saturday confirmed the attack.

A government official said 15 dead had been recorded at a hospital and 47 people were injured.
