Amazon Alexa headed to PCs this year, challenges Cortana

As far as Google Assistant goes, Klipsch will debut new versions of its Three and One Heritage series speakers with the voice controls in tow. These manufacturers have debuted brand new PC models that are created to work with Alexa at this week's International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Ford announced plans to begin testing Alexa in cars at CES past year, and BMW previously announced plans to begin adding Alexa support to its model lineup last September.

Toyota on Tuesday said it will start adding Alexa voice services to select Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the United States in 2018, with a rollout to additional models taking place in 2019.

His sentiments were echoed by Amazon Alexa Automotive boss John Scumniotales who stated "Our vision for Alexa is that she should be everywhere a customer might need her - at home, in the office, on phones - and in cars".

Alexa will appear in certain Toyota and Lexus models. A motorist can ask Alexa to play music, order a cup of coffee from a nearby Starbuck's, or operate various home automation devices, turning up the thermostat or turning on the lights at home, for example. They could even get weather updates through the glasses. The 75-employee company that specializes in wearable display and virtual reality and augmented reality technologies managed to integrate Alexa into its invention thanks to an Amazon program that enables third-party manufacturers to put the digital assistant into their products.

Amazon's intelligent assistant Alexa will be going for a ride in select Toyota and Lexus vehicles later this year.

Amazon hasn't said whether it will release its own branded smart glasses with Alexa, but Travers expects it to happen. The Detroit automaker now allows a motorist to order a cup of coffee from Starbucks through Alexa, or a pizza from Domino's.

At the same venue, Toyota unveiled the autonomous e-palette concept.
