Cabinet ministers should speak up like SC judges: Yashwant Sinha

Supreme Court says judge Loya's death'serious issue

The Supreme Court asked the Maharashtra government to produce all documents related to the Loya case

But Patra, slamming the Congress, said that Indian democracy "has shown the mirror" to the party, and termed its attempt "to fish (for) an opportunity where none existed politically" wrong. That's an institution of democracy where debates and discussions are supposed to take place.

Gandhi and his party demanded that the PIL concerning the death of Judge BH Loya, who was hearing the Sohrabuddin fake shootout case, should be entrusted to the senior-most judges of the Supreme Court who should ensure a thorough and impartial investigation of the case by an independent SIT.

Former Finance Minister and veteran BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Saturday said it is "our bounden duty to take note of what the judges have said".

The senior leader said the government ought to play its part in protecting democracy without interfering in the judiciary.

He said when four senior-most judges of the apex court are levelling such serious charges against the CJI and others then it seems that the country is heading towards the Emergency like it was way back in 1975. "I will appeal to them to get rid of their fears and speak up", he said.

Addressing the media, Sinha said, "Regarding the arrangement of appointing selective Benches for some special cases in the Supreme Court, a clarification must be put before the public", adding that those cases should also be revealed.

Sinha called the contents of the four judges' letter to the CJI a matter of "grave" concern. Do you understand the meaning of this?

Citing the four judges' comments that sensitive cases were assigned by the Chief Justice of India to particular benches, he said it must be clarified which were these cases. I hope we get at the truth of Judge Loya's death. They have also made a point about Judge Loya's case.

He said the press conference by judges "never happened before".

"Today's press conference could have been avoided, but the Supreme Court judges are all statesman with vast experience and knowledge, and I am sure by tomorrow, the entire issue would be resolved, "Attorney General (AG) K K Venugopal had told ANI".

Sinha also defended CPI leader D. Raja's visit to Justice Jasti Chelameswar's house.

He further added that people would be failing in their national duty if they did not take note of this.
