CNN's Cillizza: You could imagine Oprah's speech being given in Iowa

If the emphasis at Sunday night's Golden Globes on NBC was on worthy causes such as blowing the whistle on sex harassment and advocating for gender pay equality, then why did I find it so hard to sit through? After the event, an overwhelming number of people started encouraging the woman to run for president in 2020.

The former daytime talk show host got tongues a-wagging after her Golden Globes speech accepting the Cecil B. Demille award. We break down what's behind the polar temperatures that gripped the east coast over the weekend and the upcoming warm-up. And would she have to marry longtime partner Stedman Graham to win over some conservative voters?

"I'll beat Oprah", Trump said of the Oscar-nominated actress and talk show host.

As she spoke against abuse, Winfrey couldn't help but take vague jabs at the current presidential administration - an action that no doubt immediately alienated conservative women whom she could also have addressed with her words.

Lawyer Sunny Hostin wasn't a fan of the idea, and said: "I love Oprah, I love the stuff that she's done ... but don't we already have someone in the White House who has no political experience and it's not going that well".

Alison Janney was named the Best Supporting Actress in Motion Picture category for her role of LaVona Fay Golden, the mother of infamous figure skater Tonya Harding in "I, Tonya".

MeToo march

The TIME'S UP movement "is a unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere", as defined by the organization's website.

"Oprah cometh", tweeted actress Amber Tamblyn, while musician Pharrell Williams called her the greatest of all time. "From movie sets to farm fields to boardrooms alike, we envision nationwide leadership that reflects the world in which we live".

Trump, who has lauded Winfrey as worthy of the vice presidency, dismissed her Tuesday as a threat, albeit cordially. The show marked the most-watched and highest-rated non-sports telecast since the 2017 Academy Awards.

Since then, Winfrey endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016.

"So, the speech, I guess I was a little taken aback in how - you could close your eyes and imagine that speech being given in Iowa, let's say, right?" She even gave nods to the men standing with women against real and alleged sexual predators - including people like Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey.

Not only did she tell the heartbreaking story of Recy Taylor, Winfrey also expressed the importance of everyone's individual stories and how one could use their legacy to make a difference. When asked whether he'd ever consider a female running mate, Trump responded: "Well, I would consider, and as Chris [Matthews] can tell you, I threw out the name of a friend of mine, who I think the world of".
