Dunkin' Donuts Unveils 'Beverage-Led' Store of the Future

The new concept store is the third Dunkin' location that has dropped "Donuts" from the outside sign as part of a test. Once testing is complete, Dunkin' will unveil its final new store design, the company said. Starbucks, which had some trouble with its app at first, said that in the fourth quarter, 10 percent of transactions in USA company-operated stores where made using mobile order and pay.

The inside of Dunkin's new concept features what the company says is a more open design, with starker, more "modern" trimmings that feature more glass, natural light, and look not unlike a Starbucks, (or a smaller version of the new, world's largest Wawa).

Continuing its push toward ease-of-ordering, the new Dunkin' store has an area dedicated to mobile pickup so rewards members can place an order via the mobile app and pick up without waiting on the regular line.

A digital status board inside the store alerts customers by name when their mobile orders are ready. A single-cup machine enables the option of grinding and brewing select coffee varieties one cup at a time. Messaging on the new crew t-shirts, such as "Fueled by Positive Energy", and "Drink Coffee".

"The launch of our next generation concept store marks one of the most important moments in Dunkin' Donuts' growth as an on-the-go, beverage-led brand", said Dave Hoffmann, president of Dunkin' Donuts U.S. and Canada in a statement. A "grab-and-go" kiosk at the center of the store holds bottled beverages and snacks including fresh fruit, Yoplait yogurt and beef jerky. The Canton, Massachusetts-based company has been referring to itself as Dunkin' in advertisements for years, and last year, a franchise in Pasadena, California, became the first in the nation to drop "Donuts" from its name.

The store of the future is located at 588 Washington St, Quincy, MA, 02169, but if you can't make it, don't worry: Dunkin's broadcast ends with the biggest note of all: there are at least 50 similar future stores planned to open across the country by the-very near future-end of 2018, though whether the community will truly accept a new, shorter name will take a bit longer to find out. "We are thrilled to begin the New Year with such an exciting milestone for our brand, and look forward to rolling out Dunkin' Donuts' store of the future to our guests in all of our communities".
