Trump receives 2018 with a luxurious party at a private club

U.S. President Donald Trump attends a New Year's party at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on December 31, 2017.

Donald Trump said goodbye to 2017 by having a lavish party at his private club.

"But the town agreed to allow a helipad to be built and helicopters to land at Mar-a-Lago with certain conditions", the outlet continued.

"Great way to start the year". He's been playing golf at one of his nearby golf courses, and on Friday invited about 60 members of the Coast Guard to join him.

Trump arrived at the golf club at 9 a.m., per the White House press pool reporters.

Among the guests at the party were senior White House aides Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, the sons of the President, Eric and Donald Trump Jr. and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

Trump supporters says the "glam night" will be worth the extra security and costly entrance fees, with Toni Holy Kramer telling the Washington Post: "I think everyone is more excited this year than last year, because then he was president-elect, he hadn't been sworn in".

The White House and Trump Organization officials did not respond to requests for comment.

President Trump will be keeping a close eye on safety of all Americans as New Year's celebrations take place.

Scott and Trump have always been friends.

Trump had the 2018 elections in mind early Sunday. "2018 will be a great year for America!"

Besides the daily golf outings, Trump has left Mar-a-Lago on two other occasions - for a Christmas Eve mass and for a visit to a local fire station.

Trump also tweeted on Sunday - as he did Saturday - about the wave of anti-government protests in Iran.

Separately, Trump tweeted: " Iran is failing at every level despite the bad deal made with them by the Obama Administration. "The people are finally getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism. The USA is watching very closely for human rights violations!"

The ticket price, which has jumped from last year, has prompted criticism against Trump with some accusing him of profiting from public office with the "very glam" New Year's Eve event.
