Andre Gomes admits the pressure to perform at Barcelona has made his life'a living hell

The Portugal worldwide moved to the Nou Camp from Valencia in 2016 but has really struggled to get going and nail down a starting place.

Barca midfielder Sergio Busquets said Gomes had the full backing of his team mates and that he believed the 24-year-old could overcome his doubts against Chelsea.

Considering how the east London side have struggled to hit the right notes in recent transfer markets, West Ham will be dodging a big bullet by avoiding Gomes altogether.

"Maybe it's not the best word but (life at Barca) has become a bit of hell, because I started to feel the pressure", Gomes told Panenka magazine. "The first six months at Barcelona were positive, then things changed and for me, it was like hell because I felt more pressure and because of that, I couldn't make the most of my potential".

The Portuguese midfielder has spoken out on the pressure he feels and how he "shuts himself away". I feel comfortable around my teammates. People look at you... you have fear of going on the street out of shame. It is like I feel ashamed.

Mourinho hits back at De Boer over Rashford comments
De Boer's tenure at Crystal Palace was statistically the worst in Premier League history. Rashford has made 93 appearances since Mourinho took over from Van Gaal in 2016.

My friends tell me I am going with the handbrake on.

"I close myself off ..." I have spoken with Andre many times about many things.

Gomes's £31m move saddled the player with expectations to replicate his form at Valencia, where he scored nine goals in 78 appearances, but the constant scrutiny has led him to no longer enjoy football. "In training, I am generally relaxed although there can be days when I feel a little low on confidence and it's noticeable". I don't talk to anybody. I don't take allow myself to get rid of the frustration I have. I think about the bad things and what I have to do. "Thinking too much has hurt me", commented Gomes, who added that his companions at Barca tried to help him "a lot".

Valverde said Gomes is able to start in the Champions League against Chelsea this week if selected with Philippe Coutinho cup-tied and a late decision to be made over Andres Iniesta's fitness.
