Who do you think Randall and Tess are talking about in the future? Madison unsurprisingly makes an entrance, pronouncing herself the maid of honor - Kate indicated she didn't have one - and inserting herself into the bridal search. She tells Miguel that she knows deep down Kate feels stuck with her and would rather have Jack their on her big day. They try to get Kate to calm down while they do damage control, but Toby informs them, while picking up his separated (and bickering) parents (Dan Lauria and Wendie Malick) from the airport, that he has indeed forgotten Jack's old shirt.
But all of that is yet to come.
We see that Toby has sunken into a depression and Kate is attending to him while he is in bed.
She reiterated that Randall and Beth only have Deja's best interest at heart; although the situation is a bit hard because Deja's birth mother is still a big part of that picture. "We'll see some of that moving forward". Remember when she was showing growth and promise?
In the finale, Beth and Randall play a game of "worst case scenario" and there's one conversation they share that may be a serious case of foreshadowing. Jack and Rebecca are celebrating their 40th anniversary and renewing their vows. On tonight's This Is Us season 2 episode 18 finale, as per the NBC synopsis, "You are invited to the This Is Us Season finale". Zoe, for the short term, seems to make some sort of impression on Deja, as the teen actually gets dressed for the wedding (but then later goes missing at the end).
Before she heads down the aisle, Kate and Rebecca have a moment. They were family to him long before they literally became family. Here's hoping a rejuvenated Pearson family can cut the guy some slack in Season 3.
Thankfully, the day is saved by Beth's cool cousin Zoey who gives the young girl an understanding speech. That should make family gatherings interesting. "It was such a showcase for Mandy, because of the high-level degree of difficulty stuff she was having to do in those episodes as the whole country was watching". We imagine this will not be all smooth sailing, but we can't wait to see how it plays out.

After last week's episode devoted to telling Deja's backstory, which was a series-best episode, Deja can't quite seem to adapt to the mounting uphill battles of her life. Or does Beth fall ill and wind up on life support as a result of years of worry and stress caused by Deja?
Either way, there are so many ways this episode could go tonight and we are very much looking forward to it. They feel like he needs to tip toe around her and he is always calming her. Toby gets upset.
"People wanted to be so happy for Kate and Toby, and for the family, that it was really important to leave on a [happier] note". The shop owner tells her no, but he does have banana coconut.
When Rebecca offers to step aside to make sure her daughter's wedding is flawless, Kate immediately asks her not to. William's return to Randall's life provided enough of one to carry much of the first season, and it eventually reached out to affect Rebecca and Kevin and even Kate and Toby to a degree, so it wasn't just confined to Randall and Beth's corner of the series.
While her brothers thought she was skipping out on her wedding, Kate was doing anything but. "I have my dream idea", she said at the time. Kate tells her he isn't in the dreams. She tells him she's not ready, and he says he's not ready either. Unfortunately, they don't have the flavor she used to get with Jack, so she can't use that as her "something old" to eat with her cake. Like the characters, we've found ourselves struggling to reconcile with a present that he's not a part of.
In an equally wrenching scene, Rebecca recalls the first day she ever met Jack - remember back in the season one finale when she was singing in that bar? - and then pays tribute to that moment with a handsome rendition of "Moonshadow", the same song she was singing on the day Jack first set eyes on her. Jack tears up, and so do I, and so does everybody.
