The NIA asked Zeliang to appear for questioning with documents related to alleged payments made to the insurgent groups.

The NIA has also directed the former Chief Minister to bring all the documents pertaining to the illegal payments.

"With the announcement of state assembly elections 2018 in Nagaland, came a summon from the NIA for three staffers of the then chief minister's office".

"On February 15 and 16, just before the state Assembly elections, NIA summoned three officials - OSD, Media Officer and Public Relations Officer of Mr. Zeliang - to Guwahati".

The NIA on Monday summoned former Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang for questioning in connection with an alleged "tax collection and terror funding" case while the leader through a letter to the agency expressed his inability to appear due to assembly session beginning on Tuesday and sought a fresh date.

On March 1, just before the Election results were announced, an Officer of Zeliang was again summoned and interrogated for 5 days, from March 3 -7 at its HQ, New Delhi. As many as 14 departments are under the NIA scanner in Nagaland.

As NIA has arrested four Nagaland government officers a year ago with the charges of providing Rs 20 crore in just four days to the banned insurgent group NSCN (K) by sharing with the outfit funds from the state exchequer.

In January previous year, the NIA conducted searches at government departments in Nagaland and seized receipts that showed payments to the tune of Rs 2 crore.

Mr Zeliang's Naga People's Front said it was a case of political vendetta. "The three officers. complied and appeared before the NIA officer concerned at the Guwahati NIA branch office", the NPF said in the statement.

"In view of the assembly session commencing from March 13 till March 26, I am required to attend the session as Leader of Opposition", Zeliang said in the letter.

S. Khetoshe Sumi, a senior cadre of NSCN (K), was apprehended by the Assam Rifles in Dimapur on July 31, 2016, according to the NIA. His interrogation led to the NIA getting information of possible terror funding in Nagaland.

The Agency has asked the leader to appear before the NIA officials in the National Capital on March 13.
