Xiaom has used the hashtag #CompactPowerhouse to promote the device and seeing that the Redmi 5 in China has a 3,300 mAh battery, we could expect the same in the Indian version. Today's launch event will be livestreamed on the official Xiaomi India website and also on the company's YouTube channel. Xiaomi, last month announced two new affordable Redmi handsets - Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. However, it is speculated to be the Redmi 5 which is the successor of company's last year's pocket-friendly smartphone Redmi 4. If Xiaomi follows a similar strategy, then Redmi 5 could will also have a similar price range as past year.

Xiaomi has been teasing the upcoming Redmi phone or the Redmi 5 for quite some time now. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively. It also comes with a separate Mi Drop cloud storage app, Do Not Disturb mode, App vault to secure all most-used applications in one folder, split screen (compatible with select applications only), new widget options, Home screen editing options and more.

On the software front, the Redmi Note 5 runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out-of-the-box layered with MIUI 9 atop. The battery capacity of the phone is 3300mAh which promises to deliver up to 12 days of standby time. It sports a 12-MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash. The device is expected to hit the India shores with nearly the same specifications.
