The Cougars never trailed enroute to a doubleheader sweep of visiting St. Marys High, 11-6 and 10-3, in softball action Thursday.

In game one, PBL won 13-2 as Gerdes hit 2-for-3 with a home runs, four RBIs and four runs scored. Barker and senior outfielder Samantha McQueen scored on RBI singles. Saint Anselm improved to 9-2-1 in the NE10 conference.

Morgan Palubicki (2-4) started the game and allowed four runs (three earned) in four innings of work. The junior leads the team with 12 home runs, second only to Anna Grace Magee of Mandeville in all of the parish. Maddy Marsh relieved her and gave up just one hit in the final two innings.

It occurred in the second inning.

Morgan went 2-for-2 at the plate with three runs scored, three RBIs and two doubles. Other top players included: Anna Riggleman, 1 for 4 with 1 run and Hanna Carlson, 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Batting third, Park senior first baseman Heather Degler had back-to-back doubles and scored twice in the fourth inning. "It's kind of frustrating when you leave that many people on base". The senior hurler stepped up by getting a grounder off the bat of David Vinsky.

Julian Harvey picked up the win for the Wolves recording four strikeouts and a walk while on the mound for four and a third innings. The Panthers clinging to a 2-1 lead saw Austin Lansky single with one out in the ninth. A lead-off double put a runner on second, advancing her to third on a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Naomi Dickerson came into the circle to finish out the game for the Jackets.

Zeimis was hurt in the bottom of the ninth by walks. Chojnowski scored off a fielder's choice at the end of the fifth inning, but it was not enough to rally UMass Lowell back into the game. She scattered 4 hits over 4 innings and gave up 1 run. Zeimis suffered his second loss of the season.
