House fire claims one man's life

A fire Saturday afternoon in Virginia left one house heavily damaged.

It's now unclear what started the fatal fire, the release says.

Officials received the call at around 1 p.m., and responding firefighters saw smoke coming from the house as they arrived on the scene.

She said the flames started in a converted garage and spread into the attic.

The fire is under investigation, Windsor Fire and Rescue said in an update posted on Twitter.

Authorities said search crews found the body of an adult male, believed to be in his mid-70s deceased inside the residence. One was discovered alive and one was deceased. While the fire was quickly under control, some hotspots remained. No injuries were reported.

The victim's name has not been released.

According to officials, crews were hampered by materials inside the home.

"This tragic fire serves as a reminder about the importance of practicing fire safety", Rutledge added.
