The BJP on Saturday accepted the resignation of two of its ministers from the Jammu and Kashmir coalition government but said their unwise move to go and pacify people rallying for suspects of rape and murder of a minor was "mistaken for trying to shield the accused".
The meeting had been called in support of the accused in Kathua rape and murder case.
He said the resignation letters were now being forwarded to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Forests and Environment Chaudhary Lal Singh and Industries and Commerce Minister Chander Prakash Ganga submitted their resignation to the state party president Sat Sharma on Friday. "Yes, there was some indiscretion but they never tried to hamper the investigation". "Sometimes lack of discretion does not tantamount of any guilt...that has led to certain misconceptions about them (two ministers) also, so they decided they will quit as ministers", Madhav responded when he was asked about a pointed question that the two ministers had termed the action of the crime branch as "jungle raj" and warned police from arresting anyone.
"'We made it clear to everyone that it is a very serious crime and let the investigating agency complete the investigation".

BJP general secretary Ram Madhav flew to Jammu this morning and held consultations with senior party leaders as well as MLAs and MLCs to discuss the situation in the state.
Singh and Ganga had attracted widespread anger and criticism for attending a meeting of the Hindu Ekta Manch, a lose group formed to support the accused, which demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case.
The senior BJP leader admitted that the two ministers displayed lack of discretion by taking part in the rally, but made it clear that there was no attempt to sabotage the investigations as charged by the Congress party.
"It is now for the court to decide", he added. After a three-and-a-half hour meeting of all PDP legislators and ministers, party spokesperson Naeem Akhtar told reporters at chief minister Mehbooba Mufti's residence, "There was no imminent threat to the coalition or the government". We are equal and responsible partners. "That is also a confidence-building measure". "If PDP and BJP continue to resolve their issues in this way, I say there is no substitute to this alliance", he said.
Madhav informed that the police officers who were involved in destroying the evidence of the case had also been arrested. The girl had disappeared from a spot near her house on January 10. She taken to a temple in Rasana village in Kathua district. A week later, her body was found in the same area.
