Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium debuts with super high ISO sensitivity

Japanese tech giant Sony has officially unveiled the Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone today.

The main USP of the Xperia XZ2 Premium is its cameras. The Motion Eye Dual camera system uses a second black and white sensor to capture additional image data, which Sony says "creates a high quality, low noise image previously never possible on a smartphone".

That, Sony promises, is the sort of sensitivity that until now would have required an interchangeable-lens camera. With this new addition to the flagship family, Xperia brings this highly advanced technology to the palm of your hand. Rear camera features powered by the Bionz mobile image-processing engine and Aube fusion image signal processor include 960fps super slow motion video recording, Bokeh, monochrome effect, HDR effect, predictive hybrid autofocus, and 5-axis image stabilisation. As expected, it is another premium flagship smartphone that boasts of premium specs including ultra-high sensitive dual cameras that are capable of 4K HDR display and movie recording.

Rounding out the devices unique specifications are a 3,540mAh battery, front and back Gorilla Glass 5, and a front-facing 13MP shooter coupled with display flash.

The Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium comes fitted with a 5.8-inch 4K display with HDR support.

Up to 4K video recording is supported, with HDR. The Xperia XZ2 Premium's screen is also billed as being 30% brighter than its predecessor while the unit also incorporates X-Reality technology, found in the company's BRAVIA televisions, to "up-convert content to near High Dynamic Range (HDR) for more cinematic contrast, colour and clarity".

It is also worth pointing out that the Xperia XZ2 Premium is quite heavy at 236 grams. It also bears the 3.5mm audio jack.

The Xperia XZ2 Premium looks like a slightly larger version of its current Xperia XZ2. It has a 3D glass surface that surrounds the exterior to create a seamless finish that's comfortable to hold and easy to carry. Apple and Samsung have a duopoly in premium smartphone market, and their closest competitors LG, Sony and HTC have lost out in the past few months.
