City were confirmed as champions on Sunday, with five games still to go, when their closest challengers Manchester United were surprisingly beaten 1-0 at home by bottom side West Brom.

It evoked memories of Sir Alex Ferguson, the former United manager, being on the golf course when he heard his team had clinched their first Premier League title following Oldham Athletic's victory at Aston Villa in May 1993.

City though have never successfully defended a league title and Kompany is hoping he can help build a dynasty at the Etihad.

Vincent Kompany says it's too early to say whether they are the best EPL team ever.

"[Against Tottenham] we had to be a little bit stronger mentally especially because it was off the back of an amount of bad events so I'm really happy with the result and the response".

"You can't take it for granted...before you know it, it's gone".

'I suppose my teammates will roll their eyes, but i want to see their reaction.

Kompany indicated he spoke with the same voice as Guardiola, who can now lay claim to 24 trophies in a nine-year coaching career which includes triumphant spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Jason Perez had two goals and three assists in the loss, with Dylan Dubitzky and Spencer Sands adding an assist each. Virginia scored four of the last six goals in the last 12 minutes, allowing them to tie the game at 6-6.

"At my age, you can still learn and we share one thing: that hunger and desire never to be satisfied". I'm probably the first one to think about next season.

Pep Guardiola's side have scored 93 goals in 33 games so far this season, putting them 16 points clear of United at the top.

"I noticed within the first month that if I'd met him at 18 or 20 [years old] then I would've been the ideal player for him", Kompany said. Firstly for him, coming to this league for the first time, and then we had to take on all this information he was giving to us. We live and survive by the strength of the team.

Guardiola, speaking after Saturday's 3-1 win over Tottenham at Wembley, declared his own satisfaction at the superb efforts of his squad this term.

"These guys are fantastic, awesome - they are incredible".

He added: "You can win the Champions League in seven games, the league is 10 months".

"Hopefully we can celebrate with our fans against Swansea (next weekend) and be champions because they deserve it".
