President of the Senate Bukola Saraki: Police claim alarm was a ruse

Naija News recalls that Mr Idris has been having a running battle with the Senate under Mr Saraki, repeatedly refusing to honour summons by the senate and accusing its members of criminal behavior.

The DPP therefore urged the police to speed up their investigation and return the suspects to Kwara State so as to commence trial as done by the Ministry of Justice in respect to similar offences and offenders in the past.

The Nigerian Police High Command has promptly debunked the alarm raised by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, that the police were about to implicate him using "coerced' cultists".

The lawmakers resolved that the Senate President should lead a delegation to relay the concerns raised on the floor by Saraki.

He said the IGP's plan is to put the suspects under duress to change the statements they already made in Ilorin and made to implicate him and the kwara state government.

He said the action is a recipe for anarchy.

Moshood listed the suspects arrested and paraded in Ilorin before being moved to Abuja today as follows: Abolaji Safti Ojulari of Kankatu area, Ilorin; Lanre Mohammed Soliu a.k.a Askari of Ile Nda Compound, Ilorin; Azeez Moyaki of Moyaki Compound, Gambari Area Ilorin and Suleiman Babatunde of Gambari Area, Ilorin.

When PREMIUM TIMES reporter visited Tuesday afternoon, a female receptionist was on hand to receive visitors. The Senate indicated its willingness to appeal the ruling, and applied for a stay-of-execution order.

The six suspects, according to the police, admitted and confessed to have killed 11 innocent persons in Kwara and other States of the country.

"It is pertinent to state that, there is no vested interest by the Inspector-General of Police in the ongoing investigation into the several murders committed by this killer gang", he said.

Speaking at plenary on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, Saraki said some cultists whose investigation had been completed and awaiting prosecution have been ordered to be transferred to Abuja by IGP Idris.

It is also imperative to let the public know that a year ago, suspects arrested over the mayhem and killings of innocent people in Ile-Ife, Osun State and those arrested in Southern Kaduna crisis in Kaduna State and suspects arrested in connection with Zaki-biam killings in Benue State were all transferred to the Force Headquarters, Abuja for further investigation before they were arraigned in court of competent jurisdiction.

But Moshood said the transfer was not because of Senate President.

"With the information that he has, they would find how to alter their statement already made in Ilorin and try and implicate the state government and particularly myself".

The Senate President says the plot is part of the strategy by the Police IG to settle scores over the declaration by the Senate that he is not qualified and competent to hold any public office and an enemy of democracy.
