Solo droid L3-37 and her big Star Wars movie surprise

After months of talk surrounding its troubled production, from the original directors being fired to an acting coach being hired, it's now time for people to see exactly what Solo: A Star Wars Story delivers.

The film debuts in Mexico, China, Spain, India, Poland, South Africa, Turkey, and Vietnam on Friday, along with its domestic launch. The tally exceeds the previous $13.2 million record held by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (which finished with the $139.8 million four-day record, or $153 million when including Thursday) and comes in just behind the $14.5 million from Thor: Ragnarok, which finished the three-day holiday weekend with $122.7 million. The only major market not opening this weekend is Japan, arriving June 29th. This isn't the first confirmation of the character's survival, as both Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels saw the character form a crime syndicate, yet audiences unfamiliar with those animated series knew the character's complicated journey.

Consider this your warning that we're going to spoil a plot point of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and then go into how it connects to Star Wars movies as recent as The Last Jedi.

On the other hand, "Solo" - an origins story that chronicles how Han Solo became the loveable, wisecracking rogue we met in 1977's "Star Wars" - doesn't feel almost as burdened. Ron Howard directed from a screenplay by Jonathan and Lawrence Kasdan.

And as pointed out by Nerdist, her presence might get a shout-out during The Empire Strikes Back, during which C-3P0 says to Han, regarding the Falcon, "Sir, I don't know where your ship learned to communicate, but it has the most peculiar dialect".
