Polling for R R Nagar seat was deferred on account of alleged electoral malpractices while it was countermanded in Jayanagar seat following the death of the BJP candidate.

"Rs 100 crore figure is not only imaginary but it is what the Congress and Janata Dal-Secular do politics with". "We have received the letter from the governor some time back".

The verdict, per se, wasn't shaped by anti-incumbency. According to the SR Bommai judgement, the first stake to form the government is for the party that is single largest and has a majority.

Also, Karnataka wasn't a Modi vs Rahul fight. "If you try such things, we will bring twice the numbers of your MLAs into our fold". The JD (S) and Congress had met the governor at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday evening and Vala had assured he will consult legal experts before making a decision. BS Yeddyurappa scored there, stitching up such local-level caste and community coalitions that would eventually help his party win the highest number of seats.

Finally, stemming from the above, the BJP desperately needs to make alliances of its own to face the 2019 poll. If it were, then there are more worries than cheers for the ruling BJP.

Euro hampered by Italian political risk; Asian shares ease
Negotiations to form a new government have heated up in recent days after an inconclusive March 4 general election. The euro was 0.05 percent higher at $1.1813 after sliding overnight to $1.1763, its lowest since December 18.

The NCP, DMK and Left agreed with the idea of a flexible Congress allying with regional forces against the BJP.

Reacting to the development, the Congress claimed that the governor did not follow the rule book while inviting the BJP to form the government. "The BJP has only 104 MLAs, the Governor invited Yeddyurappa to form government in an unconstitutional manner", senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who appeared for the Congress, told the three-member bench of Justices A.K. Sikri, S.A. Bobde and Ashok Bhushan. While in Bombay Karnataka, the BJP won 30 of the 50 seats, reducing the Congress tally to 17, from 31 in 2013, in Central Karnataka out of 36 seats, the BJP increased its tally from three to 15 even as the Congress dropped from 19 to 13. With the experience of Goa rankling Congress, it was also decided that the two parties should not waste any time if the situation comes to such a pass. BJP has won 97 and is leading in seven, for a total of 104.

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex logged a fall of 156 points to end at 35,387.88 on Wednesday amid uncertainty over government formation in Karnataka and no let-up in selling by foreign investors. Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad justified the Governor's decision, saying the BJP did not need a lesson on constitutional propriety from the Congress.

The next stop will be Kairana in western Uttar Pradesh, where Lok Sabha by-elections will be held in a fortnight. The second option, of poaching MLAs from other parties, is being actively pursued by both Congress and JD (S) too.
