Alongside the new tyres, brakes and aerodynamics, the Rapide's suspension has also received considerable attention. "With enhanced performance, sharper dynamics and more powerful design language, Aston Martin has taken Rapide to new and exciting extremes".

After being previewed at last year's Geneva Motor Show, Aston Martin has finally presented the new Rapide AMR, which becomes the latest model parked under the performance sub-brand after the DB11 AMR. Each auto will come with a numbered inspection plaque (just 210 will be built) and AMR-branded carbon-fibre sill plates.

Its design has changed little from the concept auto shown at the Geneva Motor Show 2017, with the large and aggressive front grille, reminiscent of the extreme track-only Vantage AMR Pro and the daytime running lights look to be inspired by recent Zagato models.

Extra aerodynamic bodywork includes carbonfibre splitter, sills, rear diffuser and bootlid lip spoiler.

The Rapide AMR continues to use Aston's naturally aspirated V12, and it now produces 580 hp and 465 pound-feet (630 Newton-meters), versus 552 hp (412 kW) and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) from the version in the Rapide S. Channelled to the rear wheels through a carbon propellor shaft and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, the AMR covers the 0-60mph dash in 4.2 seconds on its way to a 205mph top speed. The sedan has the modified brake ducts and dust shields from the Vanquish S that help cooling, according to the company. Carbon-ceramic brakes have also been fitted - a first for the Rapide - comprised of 400mm discs at the front gripped by six-pot calipers, and 360mm discs and four-pot calipers at the rear. Altogether, the Rapide AMR sits 10mm lower than a Rapide S, with tweaks to the three stage adaptive dampers to make them more dynamic and focused.

To harness all that power, the auto it sits on 21-inch alloy wheels, which help with brake cooling, with ultra-high performance Michelin Super Sport tyres.

Tesla to get ‘full self-driving feature’ in August
Unlike the Model 3 , the Tesla Roadster isn't created to try to replace our cheaper petrol cars with EVs. That's not as fast the Koenigsegg Agera S, but with that acceleration, I don't think anyone will mind.

There are three design schemes: Standard, Silhouette and Signature. Silhouette drops the lime, and throws in a full-length China Grey or Clubsport White strip.

For that proper "AMR look", you'll want the Signature scheme that matches Stirling Green paint with Lime accents and a Lime stripe.

These design schemes are reflected on the interior as well, available with either AMR Lime or Galena Silver welting and stitching.

Also available for the first time as an option is a One-77 style steering wheel. Every example features AMR logos stitched into the front perches, a limited-edition AMR inspection plaque and AMR branding on the carbon sill plates.

The Aston Martin Rapide AMR will be available worldwide (except Russian Federation and China) from the final quarter of 2018, with prices starting at £194 950 (R3.48 million) ex factory in the United Kingdom; expect to pay about R6 million landed in South Africa.
