A move that has always been in gestation, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is on the verge of leaving Chelsea, paving the way for the introduction of former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri at the helm of the Blues.

Zola hasn't been involved in a managerial role since his stint at Birmingham City back in 2016 and his agent, who was speaking to CalcioNpoli24, as translated by Sport Witness, explained how the deal is progressing.

It is also suggested that Chelsea officials are interested in bringing OGC Nice midfielder Jean Michaël Seri to the club this summer, a move which has likely already been run past their proposed manager Sarri.

The Sun says Chelsea are set to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new boss after reaching a £9.5million agreement to terminate the contracts of Conte and his backroom staff.

The Italian's return would be welcomed by supporters, who might be otherwise concerned by the appointment of Sarri - a manager of 13 years who has never won a major honour. Working with Maurizio would be a fantastic thing.

Sarri is expected to be named as Chelsea's new manager in the coming days after lengthy negotiations between the Premier League side and Napoli.

Zola remains a popular figure around Chelsea, whom he represented between 1996 and 2003 and scored 80 goals in 311 appearances.
