Russian Federation has encouraged de-escalation talks between the United States and North Korea. A flurry of media coverage the day Kim arrived in Singapore showed him waving from the door of the specially chartered Air China flight that brought him from Pyongyang.
Trump said the negotiations he has initiated should help improve conditions in the isolated country, which successive United States administrations have targeted for gross human rights violations.
"We save a fortune by not doing war games", Trump tweeted Wednesday, "as long as we are negotiating in good faith - which both sides are!"
"Without Otto this would not have happened", Trump told a post-summit news conference in Singapore.
Talks are to be led on the USA side by Pompeo and, according to the agreement, a "relevant, high-level" North Korean official. "I think it's inappropriate to be having war games". Secretary of State Mike Pompeo flew to Seoul on Wednesday for follow-up meetings.

Mr Pompeo will meet President Moon Jae-in on Thursday morning to discuss the summit. Mr Pompeo, the former Central Intelligence Agency director, then plans to fly to Beijing to update the Chinese government on the talks.
North Korea no longer poses a nuclear threat to the rest of the world, or at least that is according to U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump appears to have resolved the immediate threat of war and cast himself as a peacemaker.
Despite the confusion and disappointment among some, the summit managed to, for a time at least, reset a relationship that has always been characterized by bloodshed and threats.
Trudeau's criticism will cost Canada 'a lot of money'
Kudlow said Trudeau had engaged in a "a sophomoric political stunt for domestic consumption" and should apologize. Trudeau said at the press conference that Canada would not be "pushed around" by the United States.
Trump's announcement also appeared to surprise both the US and South Korean militaries, who said they hadn't received any instruction to cease the joint military drills, including the Ulchi Freedom Guardian exercises scheduled to take place this fall.
President Donald Trump returned to Washington on Wednesday to piece together a new world reality, one he hopes will result in a nuclear-free North Korea and maybe one day a Nobel Peace Prize. "No longer - sleep well tonight!" Typically, arms-control deals are verified by trained experts inspecting military and nuclear facilities. Trump insisted that strong verification of denuclearization would be included in a final agreement, saying it was a detail his team would begin sorting out with the North Koreans next week. Ultimately, in the short term, at least while diplomacy continues, Trump's tweets seem to indicate he is ready to live with the fact that North Korea has nuclear weapons and potentially the capacity to fire them at the United States, in an implicit erosion of the USA strategic position.
But there was no mentioning the previous US aim of "complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization".
Meeting with staged ceremony on a Singapore island, Trump and Kim signed a joint statement on Tuesday agreeing to work toward a denuclearised Korean Peninsula, although the timeline and tactics were left unclear. Jung said Trump led the group to believe that he would confront the leadership in Pyongyang about the widespread abuses in the country.
The US has been a major ally of Seoul since the Korean War in the 1950s, and is seen by many nations as the ultimate guarantor of security in the region.
But others said it's a great step forward for peace. Pompeo told reporters that the language used in the document encompassed those demands, even though they weren't spelled out.
