Spade's 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix, was not at home when the death occurred, police say.
He also shares that Kate was actively seeking help for her depression and anxiety for the last five years, and was proactive about seeing a doctor on a regular basis and taking medication to treat her symptoms.
Spade is believed to have hanged herself with a red scarf tied to her bedroom doorknob, according to The New York Times, which reported that she'd left a note. And it clearly wasn't her.
"She was a great talent who had an immeasurable impact on American fashion and the way the world viewed American accessories", they said. "But we certainly miss our bright, sun-shiney little person".
"We were best friends trying to work through our problems in the best way we knew how", Andy Spade said.
Trustees report warns Medicare finances worsening
Medicare, the program that provides health care for older Americans and those who are disabled, is covered by two big trust funds. That's in part due to lower payroll taxes because of lower wages and lower Social Security benefit taxes, the trustees said.
Coach, now known as Tapestry, bought the Kate Spade brand a year ago for $2.4 billion. The fashion designer's sister claimed the 55-year-old would repeatedly watch news coverage of the actor's suicide.
In the statement, Andy explained that although they had been living separately for the past 10 months, they spoke or saw each other every day and co-parented their daughter together. "We want to honor her life and her major contribution to the fashion business and express our most honest condolences to the family". I even said I (would) go with her and be a "patient" too (she liked that idea) I said we could talk about it all - our childhood, etc. We were together for 35 years.
"My main concern is Bea and protecting her privacy as she deals with the unimaginable grief of losing her mother", he concluded.
Among the subjects Andy Spade covered in his statement were Kate's longtime bouts with depression and anxiety, the status of their 24-year marriage and the rumors that their new business venture was floundering. "We loved each other very much and simply needed a break". "Bea - I have always loved you".
Earl "Frank" Brosnahan, Spade's father, has also spoken out about his daughter's death, telling The Kansas City Star he'd spoken to Spade the night before. They moved to NY in the mid-1980s before Kate launched Kate Spade Handbags in 1993. She met her frequent collaborator and future husband Andy Spade in the mid-1980s, when both were students at Arizona State University working in the same clothing store, they told The Impression, a fashion publication.
