You'll Only Play As Ellie in The Last of Us Part II

While it may not come as a big surprise, Naughty Dog has seemingly confirmed what many already thought: when The Last of Us Part II releases, Ellie will be the only playable character. The title was again teased at the Paris Games Week trade show a year ago and at E3 2018, we're getting another - more intimate - look at the promising sequel. Before introducing Last of Us Part II, we were introduced to game composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who humbly walked onto stage with a hoodie and a simple banjo.

The trailer also seemed to be pretty careful to show an even mix of single player, four player, and larger-scale 8-player gameplay.

Most of the early marketing and teases of the game have focused on Ellie, both with her growth as a character and her growth in the world of The Last of Us. "You're going to feel her physical, emotional, and mental state expressed through every facet of gameplay", Druckmann said. We know it'll be available for the PlayStation 4 and be a single-player title, but finer details like price and launch date aren't provided. That's where we left Joel and Ellie at the end of the first game, their cross-country journey eventually leading them a few hundred miles back to a settlement overseen by Joel's estranged brother. It took place in a dance hall that looked like the hall in which the actual E3 2018 Sony briefing was held.
