The Tesla and SpaceX CEO had floated a number of high-tech ideas to assist with the rescue, including an underwater air tunnel and an inflatable tube, before settling on the mini submarine, tweeting videos of the contraption being tested.
Days before the rescue mission was executed, he started promoting his novel solution: putting the boys in a mini-submarine to guide them to the cave exit.
"He can stick his submarine where it hurts."The submarine was reportedly 5 feet and 6 inches long, small enough to carry one of the boys but likely rigid and obtuse in the tight, murky dimensions of the cave network. "It wouldn't have made the first fifty meters into the cave". "It was just a PR stunt".
When the reporter mentioned that Musk entered the cave himself earlier in the week, Unsworth replied that "he was asked to leave very quickly - and so he should have been".
Musk has since mooted other potential uses for the contraption, tweeting that it could be used to rescue people trapped in risky environments where exposure to toxic gases or waterborne viruses and bacteria may be a concern.
Dwayne Johnson honors amputee community with ‘Skyscraper’
In the film, Johnson's amputee hero attempts a leap from a crane to a skyscraper , where his wife and kids are being held hostage. Right out of the gate the movie shows us that Will is going to be a more mellow character than we are used to Johnson playing.
On Sunday, Musk jumped on Twitter and called Unsworth a "pedo guy". He wrote: "We will make [a video] of the mini-sub/pod going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo".
"You know what, don't bother showing the video".
Last Tuesday, Musk told his Twitter followers he had just returned from the Tham Luang Nang Non cave complex. It is made of rocket parts & named Wild Boar after kids' soccer team.
Musk fired back at this claim, saying the former provincial governor was "not the subject matter expert" and sharing his correspondence with leader of the dive rescue team Richard Stanton. "If the rain holds out it may well be used".
