All three Lannister siblings were also recognized, with Lena Headey earning her fourth Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Cersei while her on-screen brothers Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) picked up Best Supporting Actor nods.
"The more distribution platforms, the more content's getting created, the more people are going to be working. It may not be a core audience, but it can be a hard-core audience", he said.
According to Variety, Netflix favorites like The Crown and Stranger Things are to thank for its success with this year's nominations.
Russia, Greece spat and diplomatic tit-for-tat
In a rare diplomatic tussle between two countries with traditionally warm ties, Moscow said it would respond in kind. Greece and Russian Federation share the Orthodox Christian religion and have traditionally had warm ties.
Netflix also showed its dominance over the traditional free-to-air and cable TV networks. It has 22 nominations, followed by Saturday Night Live and Westworld with 21 each. Medfield's Uzo Aduba has been nominated for Supporting Actress for "Orange Is the New Black" three times (winning twice, in 2014 and 2015), while Wayland and West Roxbury's Taylor Schilling was nominated for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2014. Others in the category include "black-ish", "Silicon Valley", "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt".
The newbie comedies aced out long-time Emmy favourite "Modern Family", a five-time victor and perennial nominee since it debuted in 2009 on ABC.
But what's really cool about Dinklage's 2018 nomination is that it has made Emmys history.
"TBS bravely put a woman over 45 on TV and in turn I only got yelled at by the president once", she said in a statement. "I think my mother at this moment may actually be satisfied".
