Chicago Fire are now 7th in MLS' Eastern Conference - a point off of the playoff spots - and Torres would be another big-name addition to the North American league after Wayne Rooney recently joined relegation-threatened DC United.

His Atletico Madrid contract ran out this summer and was not renewed, with his final appearance as a 90th-minute substitute in the Europa League final defeat of Marseille.

"Sagan Tosu were one of the first clubs to be interested in me, they have convinced me with the project". I am joining up next week and hoping to start as soon as possible with my new teammates, playing games and scoring goals.

He said he planned to make his debut for Sagan Tosu on July 22. How long will depend on my sporting performance.

"We have had proposals from all continents", Torres told the media on Tuesday.

"I think that Japan and the Japanese league is going to be a great experience".

But he added rescuers may need more than 20 hours, to replan and replenish oxygen supplies, to be ready to mount the next mission. Two of the boys had suspected lung infections but the four boys from the first group rescued were all walking around in hospital.

"I wanted a new challenge in a completely different place".

Torres is following in the footsteps of his World Cup and European Championship-winning team-mate Andres Iniesta, who recently joined Japanese side Vissel Kobe after leaving Barcelona. I will do everything I can to help this team.

"At the moment I am not thinking of being a coach".

The move was also announced on Sagan Tosu's official website, with the club saying he would be given the No. 9 shirt, which he has worn for the majority of his career.

Across two spells with Atletico, along with his successful stint in England with Liverpool and Chelsea plus a brief loan in Italy AC Milan, Torres has scored 256 goals at club level.
