Fortnite Season 5 Adds a New Squad Vehicle, Desert Biome & More

Once Season 5 of Fortnite comes online later today, we will report back with how the map has changed, and what the new theme of the game is like. Epic Games has also added desert outposts and a desert biome, viking ships and ancient statues onto the map, which may have fallen through the crack in the sky.

There's a lot more to explore in the latest Season 5 update and you can check out the full patch notes here. Hop in an All Terrain Kart (ATK) with your squad and uncover all-new mysteries and locations that await.

The roof of the ATK also functions as a bounce pad. You'll also be able to see how numerous pellets from a shot hit the target, which will be displayed by marks within the reticle, allowing you to see at a glance how effective your shot was. All four members of a squad can climb inside, but also work together to enable higher jumps using a well-timed lean.

The biggest change pertains to the new Rifts that are scattered all throughout the "Fortnite" battle royale map.

In order to jumpstart the competition, according to Epic Games, invitations have already been sent for the tournament and the participants will be made up of community and Fortnite players. There are truckloads of tweaks, changes and additions - ranging from weapon alterations to new vehicles - so study up before dropping. The center of the 7th, 8th and 9th Storm circles can now shift in random directions instead of just simply shrinking.

Those familiar with Fortnite will know that switching between two shotguns has become a staple of the elite who play the game, allowing for multiple up close shots in quick succession to down an opponent. This should provide players with more information on why their point blank hits are only registering small damages. Also, after firing a shotgun, you won't be able to use a different shotgun for a short amount of time, presumably to avoid players weapon switching to fire off shotguns faster than they were created to be shot. To rectify this, players can earn XP for reviving their teammates in 50v50 and Teams of 20 matches.

Auto-fire has also been added as an option in the iOS game - you can toggle it on and off in the settings menu.

So what exactly do you get for completing the Fortnite Season 5 Week 1 challenges?
