Perisic played a key role in helping Croatia to beat England and knock the Three Lions out of the World Cup at the semi-final stage on Wednesday night.

The 29-year-old has once again been linked with United in this window, although Inter have fought hard in the past to keep him in Italy.

It appears Mourinho could get his wish as TeamTalk are now citing a report from Don Balon that claims United have moved quickly to agree terms over a £70.6m deal with Madrid to sign the German worldwide.

Their opponents managed to grab an equaliser in the second half and then soon punished Gareth Southgate's side for losing their moment with a goal in extra-time.

"Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others", the Portuguese tactician told Russia Today. "Normally you judge wide players on their pace and creativity, but he's physical too - exceptionally physical - and in the air he's fantastic".

"But he is also physical, very physical".

Commercial whalers 'kill first blue whale in over 50 years'
Experts claim it is a blue whale, a protected species which has not been harpooned by anyone for the last fifty years. Before the commercial whaling of the 20th century there were about quarter of a million blue whales.

"So the way he wins that ball in the air [for Mandzukic's winning goal] and puts the ball into that space is only possible if you are very, very physical and dominant over defenders".

Angel Gomes is a young player who may want to show he can be a part of the first team.

With the bulk of the senior squad still participating in the World Cup or on holiday after their exertions in Russia, Mourinho has bolstered his numbers by promoting a host of academy graduates.

"So for them to go back to their country and take a nation like Croatia to the World Cup final is something wonderful".

United open the 2018-19 Premier League season as they take on Leicester City at Old Trafford on August 10.
