In an operation that gripped the entire world, all 12 boys and their football coach have been successfully rescued from a cave in Thailand after being trapped for more than two weeks. In a risky operation led by the Thai navy Seals, an worldwide team managed to get the boys through a complicated and often narrow exit route.
Musk had been posting about wanting to help the rescue efforts in Thailand in days prior, and he traveled to the Southeast Asian country as the mission was underway.
Much of the journey to the cave's entrance was through freezing, muddy water that proved challenging for even the Thai Navy SEAL divers.
Attention will now be focused on the recovery of the boys and their coach; doctors who have been working with the eight boys rescued earlier last week have said they are generally in good health.
"Miracles may happen every day but this is one for the ages", said Cornell Brooks, chief executive of the NAACP civil rights group in the United States. Jedsada said they were uncertain what type of infections the boys could face "because we have never experienced this kind of issue from a deep cave". Eight days later, rescue crews dramatically overcame the odds to save a group of people with no diving experience by diving with them through the flooded cave. Musk said the submarine is expected to arrive in Thailand around 11 p.m. Monday, local time.
Despite the heavy rain that fell the night before the third and final rescue, the water levels didn't rise, which meant it was possible for the boys and their coach to walk and wade through a longer distance underground.
