Oddsmakers see clear favorite in Kawhi Leonard sweepstakes

Earlier in the week, Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post reported that the Toronto Raptors are gaining momentum as a potential Leonard suitor.

The fact Leonard can become a free agent in 2019 presents some issues for other teams looking to build a trade package for Leonard as he has reportedly expressed a desire to join the Lakers. To date, the most prominent team to come forward with a proposal has been the Los Angeles Lakers, with their subsequent discussions seemingly not progressing.

The Toronto Raptors also generated buzz as a potential destination for Leonard. The Raptors are now level with the San Antonio Spurs as betting favourites for where Kawhi Leonard will play in 2018-19, according to OddsShark. With LeBron James out of the Eastern Conference, perhaps Raptors President of Basketball Operations Masai Ujiri is willing to swing for the fences and move DeMar DeRozan or Kyle Lowry in such a deal. Reports from last week suggesting that the Philadelphia 76ers had the inside track on Kawhi Leonard noted that Philly was holding back on some of its biggest stars, including Joel Embiid.

As Sheridan says, the Sixers have the "bushel of assets" needed to make a trade with San Antonio for Kawhi Leonard possible.

Leonard was not with the team during the playoffs, or at the end of the regular season, as he attempted to recover from his quadricep injury, spending time in physical therapy and in the gym, supposedly. At 59-23, the Raptors finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference in 2017-18.

Could Kawhi Leonard be heading north of the border?

Leonard has been steadfast in his approach to free agency: He wants to be a Los Angeles Laker, even following the team's addition of LeBron James. It seems to have come from two recent stories.
