Police believe a man involved in an ongoing standoff with officers at a Los Angeles supermarket shot his grandmother and girlfriend before firing at officers during a pursuit, then crashing outside the supermarket and running inside the store. Police did not confirm if the suspect is armed or if there are hostages inside the store, located in the 2700 block of Hyperion Avenue.

Some witnesses took to social media.

The former race auto driver delivered an opening monologue that took (lighthearted) aim at some of the top athletes in sports. Patrick soldiered on, telling the audience, "We have to mention the elephant in the room".

Photos posted on social media show a vehicle crashed outside the store entrance as heavily armed police swarm the area. After about 30 minutes, he says police came him and rushed them outside.

Los Angeles Police Department tweeted: "There is an active police incident at the Trader Joe's near the intersection of Hyperion Ave and Griffith Park Blvd in Silverlake".

It was unclear how many hostages remained in the store or if any shoppers or employees were hurt, but TV footage showed police tending to one person who appeared to be injured.

The suspect earlier fired shots after a police pursued the auto he was driving.
