The Airplay integration is available on most Sonos speakers, including the Sonos One, Beam, Playbase, and the second generation Play:5. Not only can you stream any audio to your Sonos speakers using AirPlay 2, but you can also ask Siri to do the heavy lifting.
It's not often that a simple software upgrade can improve the prospects of an imminent tech IPO, but that could happen with Sonos, which announced support for Apple's Airplay 2 technology Wednesday.
Anyone with a compatible Sonos speaker can fire the update up from the Update section in the Sonos controller app and we heartily suggest you do exactly that in order to get the very best out of your setup. The protocol is also supported on Apple TV4 / 4K, which allows you to wirelessly output TV audio to multiple speakers at home. Sonos' big-sound-in-small-speakers design has won praise, along with loyalty of some users who install them in multiple rooms. Over the coming months, Airplay 2 will be enabled on speakers from Bang & Olufsen, Libratone, Denon, and others. That means youll have yet another easy way to use Sonos to listen to services like Apple Music, Spotify, Audible, Pandora, and dozens of others.
Apple updates MacBook Pro with faster performance and new features for pros
Apple will be bringing Face ID to the iPad line with a new 12.9-inch iPad pro and a new 11ich IPad pro. The leak came from a source within Samsung Display, the sole OLED supplier for the upcoming iPhones.
"As such, it is possible that Amazon, which sells products that compete with ours, may on limited notice disable the integration, which would cause our Sonos One or Sonos Beam products to lose their voice-enabled functionality".
You'll need to use the Sonos app still, to group any other speakers with those four models and spread AirPlay 2 audio around more comprehensively. AirPlay also lets you unlock sound from a whole selection of content apps and services. Show your friend that hilarious YouTube video on your iPhone and make sure he catches the punchline when you send the sound to your new Sonos Beam. Then, launch the Home app on your iPhone or iPad to add your Sonos to your accessories and you're ready to go.
Sonos notes that you can use the Alexa assistant built into the One and Beam to control music started through Siri commands, too, although, to be clear, Siri is less involved here than it is on the HomePod where it is integrated from the ground up. That's also how you later change which speakers are being streamed to: AirPlay 2 only sees the four Sonos models with native support, not any older models. If you have any other Sonos speaker, and have linked it to a standalone Echo smart speaker using the Sonos skill, you can use Alexa on that in the same way.
