Pogba was handed the responsibility in Manchester United's 2-1 win over Leicester City in their league opener last Friday.

Pogba will captain United again on Sunday in the absence of regular skipper Antonio Valencia.

Pogba was given the captain's armband by his manager for the first game of the new season.

But Mourinho is adamant that that has nothing to do with him as he defended his relationship with Pogba, revealing that he's only fined one player during his time at Old Trafford.

However, speaking at a press conference on Friday, Mourinho defended his relationship with Pogba saying he has never been happier with him than he is now.

"That's the truth. I can not demand more from him, I can not ask more from him".

Hughton said: "I think that's what happens when you are a top, top manager".

It has been an eventful summer for Mourinho, who has publicly criticised Manchester United's lack of transfer action, and reportedly fallen out with Paul Pogba.

Killed in Bridge Collapse in Genoa
Opened in 1967, the bridge is part of the A10 motorway connecting Genoa to France and is named after designer Riccardo Morandi. Italy's national fire service said on Twitter that 200 of its emergency workers were involved in the rescue effort.

Mourinho added: "You have to ask Paul [why he said that]".

"He never had a fight with me, we never had a hard change of words, everything is respected".

The Frenchman missed out the Red Devils tour of the U.S. due to his involvement in the summer World Cup exploits but returned early for training and was a surprise starter against the Foxes.

'Don't put him in a situation that people can think he's not a polite, educated guy.

"I always just do my best for the club, with good performances, and whenever the team needs me I will just do my thing and help my team-mates, my team and the manager to get the best results". "I'm here for two years and a couple of months and the only player that was fined was Anthony Martial, so it is not easy to be fined here".

Former Manchester United midfield lynchpin turned spiritual guru to disaffected supporters of the club, Paul Scholes has been on the airwaves once more this morning.

'From the outside he looks like a leader but what we haven't seen is the consistency of the likes of Bryan Robson and Roy Keane, so that extra responsibility will hopefully help him maintain his levels.
